Give Yourself Enough Time. The garage is the largest room in the house, make sure you have set aside enough time to actually make a difference. Making it a weekend project is a great start. | ||

Organize for a reason. How do you want to use the garage? Park your car? Home workshop? Storage place for kid's items? Organize what's most important to you. | ||

Get a Theme. Are you a NASCAR, Harley, or vintage car collector? Now is your chance to give your garage some character. Weather it's just a paint color, beer sign or even themed cabinets and tool chest, you'll love having the coolest garage in town. | ||

Keep common tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, etc. in an easily accessible location, such as a tool chest, toolbox, shelf or a designated drawer. | ||

Group Items together, Look around your garage determine what section will store items like camping and outdoors, or hand tools and gardening supplies, automotive supplies. Draw a quick sketch and see if it makes sense on paper BEFORE you begin. | ||

Go vertical on your walls. Keep the floor free of clutter. Maximize walking, working and parking space with shelving, cabinets, or storage lockers. You will be amazed at how much space you can save by going vertical. | ||

Use overhead space for additional storage. Go to the ceiling with storage, you have a lot of it. It's great for seasonal items, such as holiday decorations, luggage, or items that you only use once to twice a year. | ||

Thin about safety Keep potentially dangerous items: saws, drills, sanders, gasoline, cleaning supplies, etc., under lock and key. Use lockable tool chests and cabinets for these items. | ||

Label Boxes and containers, doesn't have to be a fancy label, get yourself a permanent marker and get it done. | ||

Do you really need it still? If your keeping it just becuse you may need it someday, or haven't used it in year its time to get rid of it. Decide to donate it, have a garage sale, or to just pitch it. | ||
